Yoga For Women
There are many books on 'Yoga in pregnancy'. All these books describe the Yogic practices that help in easy delivery and relaxed pregnancy. The traditional concepts about motherhood give emphasis on the baby's overall development of the physical, mental, and intellectual capacities. According to the tradition, Yoga should be started at Conception itself. For this the Yogic Practices should be started right from the time of planning of a pregnancy.
With the advancement in science today, pregnancy could be well planned. The couple should prepare themselves physically, mentally and emotionally for parenthood and Suprajanan {good progeny}. During these days they should pray the god and seek His blessings for the child they have planned for.
This can be achieved by practicing Yogasana, Pranayama and Meditation for two three months of planning for conception. Dr Sardesai in his book 'Gharoghari Dnyaneshwar Janmati '[Dnyaneshwar would be born in each and every house], says that to get such a bright child the process starts not only during pregnancy but right at the time of conception.
It has been scientifically established that the mood of the parents at the time of conception can influence the course of pregnancy and qualities of the child. When the mother is thus completely prepared for the motherhood, the mother naturally would be in a happy mood to go through the joy of pregnancy in a healthy way to give birth to a healthy baby. During these nine months the mother's health is of utmost importance for herself as well as for the child.
The mother should avoid mental and physical conflicts and should have positive attitude to enable the development of the brain and mind of the child. She can achieve this with regular practice of Yoga. Normally women are afraid to do exercisee during pregnancy. They fear that they cannot do exercises during pregnancy. To some extent it is true that they cannot do heavy excercises during pregnancy but yogic postures and other techniques if done under proper guidance are very beneficial.
The Yogic postures, which come under the discipline of Hathayoga resembles with the birth preparation-training exercises, which are taught at numerous evening classes in the Western countries, but the basic difference lies in the conscious breathing. Yoga teaches to breathe more deeply and correctly which helps to have a greater oxygenation of blood during the actual delivery. It helps for smooth delivery. Conscious deep breathing gives large supply of oxygen, which is useful to remove waste products in the body. These waste products get accumulated because of tensions and incorrect breathing, which results in physical stiffness and mental fatigue. With conscious breathing we can achieve muscular relaxation and calmness of mind.
The exercises are grouped in three sections
• Yoga before birth • Yoga during birth (labour) • Yoga after birth
